There are a lot of these services. They are cheaper (some of them are free) but they have less features than the professional equipments. Some examples: NetMeeting (free) and other software designed for sharing information in the distance.

You need a video-camera (it is enough with a webcam), a microphone and speakers.

These systems use an internet connection and they adjust themselves to your bandwidth. The image quality is low (usually not more than 12 p/s) and so it isn’t necessary to have a high quality connection.

This is a good solution if it is going to be a videoconference between two people but it isn’t enough for sharing a class between two groups.

This software usually works when both interlocutors have the same software but there are some exceptions. Other more complex systems use any web browsers ant this makes the process easier. But these sites aren’t usually for free.

In conclusion, define from the beginning the system you are going to use and then search contacts and explain them your possibilities. This way you will find someone who wants to have a videoconference with the same system.
